After the "Going Green" Expo (see last post) and all the e-mails and comments I've been getting from friends and family, I have lots of interesting material to write about, including an eco-friendly lawnmower and a delicious organic beer, so stay tuned...
In the meantime, check out SolesUnited, a new company launched by the creators of the increasingly popular footwear - Crocs. (What, you don't think Crocs are trendy? Then look here and here and here and here and here and even here!). SolesUnited collects your old, worn-out Crocs and reuses the plastic material to create brand new shoes which are then provided to people living in poor communities throughout the world who simply can't afford shoes. Not only is this a great environmental cause, but also a truly humanitarian effort to help others in need. So, for those of you on the Crocs-bandwagon, when they're worn down and you're ready to chuck 'em, return them to a retailer participating in the recycle program or mail them in, and help two good causes at the same time!
